A Weighted Remorse, due out on September 13, 2024, through Imperial/Republic Records, is the fifth self-penned album in Smith's discography since the pandemic in 2020, following the successful releases of Giving Up on Quitting (2020), What the Walls Cannot See (2021), Americana Drugs (2022), and A Nightly Consequence (2023). This newest body of work by Smith expands on the rock sounds and guitar prowess he’s been cultivating over the years, bringing his Americana blues roots into the realm of edgy shoegaze rock. Smith's signature virtuosic guitar talents, previously exhibited in his work with SAENTS, make a triumphant return, complementing the dynamic restraint of his solo efforts.
His deeply personal storytelling style, once described by the Austin Chronicle as "a dark and brooding platter that sounds like Nick Cave raised on Texas songwriters," remains at the forefront of his music. Billboard lauds that "[he] indulges his love for high-octane guitar riffs and, in the spirit of the most iconic Texas songwriters, mines his own hardships for lyrical inspiration." No Depression observed that "There isn't a minute out of the few that we have that feels wasted... Rather, this is self-contained rock with just enough grit to make it roll". Holler recognized Smith as having "his finger on the pulse of the darkest edge of Americana and his psyche.
Travesura
Travesura is a rock band from Southern California.
Founded 2014 and anchored by the songwriting of its founder and central figure, Leonardo Romero. Travesura is driven by longtime members Eric Evans (keyboards), brothers Mark and Shawn Morones (drums and guitars), and Jerry "Cool" Henderson (bass). Blending styles of country, folk, and punk, Travesura continue to craft a unique genre of rock. Past releases include the Travesura EP (2014) and Live at the Bionic Ear
(2017). This year has seen the band produce and complete its first proper studio full length album, No Sad Song, a collection of songs tested and refined by the road, Out Now. Their rotating cast of characters also include Jono Sember (Kevlar), Randy Randall (No Age), Shelby Erickson (Violinist). Currently, Travesura is in the midst of their longstanding World Rock Tour, a journey spanning the United States, Canada and greater Mexico
