Live From The Phoenix Dance Party - A Tribute to Martin Streek
For decades the legendary CFNY DJ Martin Streek went live-to-air every Saturday night from The Phoenix Concert Theatre in downtown Toronto. A generation grew up listening to what was arguably the coolest DJ on radio anywhere. Martin Streek had a style that was his own and he would create his own special set lists by blending together modern radio hits with techno/industrial beats. Nothing was off limits for Martin, from getting a tattoo on air to being dressed up in drag. Martin Streek’s was treated like royalty in Canada, and he packed The Phoenix Concert Theatre wall-to-wall with music lovers letting go on the dance floor every Saturday night for decades. The waiting list to get into the Phoenix stretched around the block and some nights you couldn’t get a ticket to get in at all.
Buffalo DJ Aaron Andrews was greatly inspired by Martin Streek and he created his own mashup of modern radio hits with techno/industrial beats for years on the second floor at The Continental, which was Buffalo’s own legendary underground concert venue and club.
For one night, DJ Aaron Andrews is going reach back into the archives to recreate some of Martin Streek’s best mixes at Buffalo’s newest and best concert venue, Electric City.
So come out on Saturday January 11th and let yourself go into the past as we celebrate the late, great Martin Streek.
