Modern Form

Modernform is a female-fronted 5-piece post-punk/new wave-inspired band based in Austin, TX. Supported by angular guitars and mesmeric synthesizers, Modernform’s songs are earworm-packed narratives about daily life's punishing mundanity and the search for its reprieve.

Born out of pandemic boredom between cohabiting siblings and their partners, Modernform’s first iteration was as a garage rock band called HOT///CAKES. In this form, the band released two EPs and flourished in the Austin scene, performing alongside many local legends, including TC Superstar, Glare, A Giant Dog, and Annabelle Chairlegs. Over time, however, as members shifted around instruments and found their best fit in the lineup, most notably with vocalist Sofia Sanchez cementing her role as a front-woman with a stellar voice and captivating stage presence, the band realized they had become something else entirely: they became Modernform.
