23rd Street Mural Project Film Screening
Join us at 1pm on Sunday, May 18th at MOHAWK to have a real cool experience. You’ll be treated to an interactive sampling of a film created to document the making and remaking of the 23rd Street Mural. Located at 23rd and Guadalupe Street on the wall of the University CoOp, the mural has survived the years and taggers. Director Mike Woolf will be our program host, leading us through the film. There will be a Q&A at the end of the program. AND there will be live music performed by Eve Monsees and Mike Buck. Admission? FREE FREE FREE
In 1973 what has become Austin’s most beloved mural was created by a group of counter-culture artists. It’s a mirror reflecting the cultural street scene of 1973 through to present day as the mural has been repainted more than once.
Beef and Pie Productions, a group of filmmakers headed up by Mike Woolf, have created an interactive sort of documentary about the mural and the artists who created it. Many notable characters are included from Austin’s fabric of life. All the puzzle pieces are in place. This postcard to the past is stamped and ready to be delivered. But how do we unlock a Stoned Rosetta? Decipher its hippie hieroglyphics? How do we not get lost down dozens of rabbit holes filled with armadillos? Come find Out! Onward! Thru the fog.
