Winner of the Best Essay Prize at the 41st Edition of Le FIFA International Festival of Films on Art, The Faithful is a 20-year exploration of fandom, memorabilia, memory, and legacy within the orbits of three of the most enduring cultural icons of our time: Elvis Presley, Pope John Paul II, and Princess Diana.

Hailed as a “truly independent film” by Greg Laemmle, owner of LA’s Laemmle Theaters—where it screened for three months—and named “My favorite film we’ve screened in my five years as associate programmer at USC School of Cinematic Arts” by Matthew Meier, The Faithful is a poetic essay film that delves into our complex relationship with the photographic image and the afterlives of these global icons.

Filmmaker Annie Berman will be in attendance for this special one-night screening, followed by a lively conversation.

Three global icons—Elvis, Pope John Paul II, and Princess Diana—one epic odyssey

Elvis, Princess Diana, and Pope John Paul II are undoubtedly still alive today, thanks to their devoted followers who love, admire, and consume them. THE FAITHFUL, a new film by writer/director Annie Berman, powerfully explores the magnetic appeal of three of the most photographed figures of our time. The Boston Globe called Berman’s 20-year exploration of image, faith, and legacy “ruminative, haunting and strange.” THE FAITHFUL leads viewers on an emotional journey that leaves them looking inwards, reflecting on their own lives, and the connections they cherish.
