SHORTS BLOCK: VIDEO MIXED TAPE
The “Video Mix Tape” shorts program takes audience members on a visual ride that ranges from the high comedy of a brother and sister who can’t stop bickering as they attempt to choose a casket for a loved one, and two couples that must do some fast thinking to outsmart a magical board game that has transported them to the Old West, to the emotional lows and heart-wrenching drama of a little boy determining the fate of a piggy bank he has come to love, and a prostitute that must make a hard choice in order to provide for her autistic son.
Someone Good Will Find You
United States, 8 min., Color
Inspired by a short story from award-willing Israeli author Etgar Keret, Someone Good Will Find You tells the story of a well-intentioned Chinese immigrant father raising his inquisitive son in New York City, trying to school him on a lesson of saving and restraint and how to make it in this country. He shares the biblical story of Moses down the Nile. When David finds a superman costume he wants, his father decides to teach him a lesson about saving instead: he buys him a piggy bank which David must fill up with coins from chores in order to buy the costume. As David does his chores he finds himself becoming more and more attached to the pig. One evening, the father decides the pig is full enough to break. David stalls his father and comes up with some creative methods of saving the pig.
