Bellwether Presents: barrett 'Appalachian' EP Release w/ special guests Lighthearted @ Booneshine

Performing Friday May 30th! Singer-songwriter and Boone native, barrett, is celebrating his EP release of 'Appalachian' hosted by Bellwether Entertainment at Booneshine Brewing. Georgia based duo, Lighthearted, will be opening up!

BARRETT 

24-year-old musician, barrett was born and raised in the western North Carolina mountain town of Boone, NC. After graduating in 2023 from Appalachian State with a degree in Architecture, he elected to stay in Boone so that he could chase after his dream of becoming a professional musician.

He was born with a guitar in his hands and because of his upbringing, was highly influenced by Appalachian music tradition. Raised by a people who found common place in sitting and enjoying the mountains while jamming their numerous instruments together, barrett was encouraged at every step to continue playing and singing to the instruments that made him feel most alive.

Growing up, barrett used music as a way to find solitude and peace, but as of late, barrett has used his music as a way to express his inner self. With vocal runs that call for listeners attention and thoughtful lyrics worth listening to, there is a voice within him that is eager to be shared. With a mixture between the Appalachian bluegrass tradition that first gave him his start, and a true influence by artists like the Backseat Lovers, Shakey Graves, Mumford and Sons, and Bon Iver, barrett is a Boone, NC born musician, primed for nuance and driven by a deep love for the music that has over time, become his own.

In the last 9 months, barrett has released five songs, totaling 1.8 million streams across all streaming platforms. What was once a pipedream, has quickly turned into reality for barrett, and it is with great pride that he releases his first ever EP this upcoming May in honor of the place that he will forever call his home: the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina.

LIGHTHEARTED

Drawing inspiration from classic folk artists like Fleetwood Mac and Joni Mitchell, as well as modern indie-folk innovators such as Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver, their sound is characterized by lush arrangements, harmonious vocals, and lyrics that explore themes of love, loss, and the beauty of the natural world.

They first released their EP “Asking for a Friend” (2020) in the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. It might have been exactly what people needed, because the lead single, “This Old Car” has accumulated over 2.1 million streams on Spotify alone since its release. 

They released their debut album, “from here on out,” in 2023, which contains even more lyrical depth and emotional resonance. Upon its release, the title track off the record was added to Spotify editorial playlists Fresh Finds Indie, Fresh Finds, and Fresh Finds Folk. These playlists rotate songs out, but the editors also curated a Fresh Finds: Class of 2023 playlist, on which lighthearted earned a permanent spot. This song has over 1.1 million streams on Spotify alone. Their second album is in the works, which showcases more of the band's evolving sound and musical maturity.
